Be Practical Bitch: Letâs try this thought exercise.
[Video] Abu is back: Posting my first full set!
Comic To Watch: King of Persia
This last week I did the most shows Iâve ever done in a week in LA - Four. This is how I felt after
âMan, Iâm good at thisâ
âThe crowds loved me, I did new material, I crushedâ
âIf I could do this every week, imagine how much better Iâd be in a yearâ
The week BEFORE though, this is how I felt.
âYouâre barely doing any shows, no open mics, you havenât written new materialâ
âThe odds of comedy working out for you is so close to 0â
âBe Practical. Give upâ
Be practical. I love this statement because itâs VALID.
So letâs calculate what the most practical path forward is
âBe Practical. Give upâ
We can tell what the most practical path forward is but Iâve learned that appearances are deceiving. So if something seems practical, it must be proved.
Letâs do that.
Left Hand Side = Path One
Stop pursuing comedy and focus on your day job.
You work as a Software Engineer at an amazing company. You like what you do and youâve proved youâre good at it. The money is great and if you keep at it you can increase your salary manifold in the next couple years.
Invest your spare time in something that makes $$$
Youâve got a ton of ideas, itâs time to invest in real estate, create the prototype for that product you thought of, AI DUDE - itâs time to automate your income.
Right Hand Side = Path Two
The odds of making it in comedy are 0.0000001%
There are SO MANY amazing comics whoâve reached nowhere and even if you start doing regular shows and touring itâs going to take YEARS to be able to hit your current income.
It involves traveling, spending nights in bars, clubs for life
Can you keep this up? Youâre not in your 20s anymore, what happens when you start a family? How is this practical?
If you fail, youâre going to watch everyone do so much better than you
Your friends will be in better positions with better jobs and houses and you just might be performing at those same bars for nothing.
Itâs pretty evident at this point that LHS > RHS.
What if I just stopped the post at this point and said you know what, Iâve heard enough this makes a lot of sense đ
These are all valid points and they donât just pertain to pursuing a job, it could be related to any major life change you might be debating about.
There is ONE point though that changes the equation:
What if it works?
What if you make it? What if you end up doing what you could barely believe youâd achieve? What if it fucking works?
The money, the satisfaction, the joy from doing what you love, the receipt of knowing you can do what you said youâd do. Every single one of these is far better in Path Two.
Best Case scenario of Path Two is FAR GREATER than Best Case scenario of Path One.
It seems like taking the shot is the most logical decision here.
Be Practical. Take the shot. Because
Path Two > Path One
RHS > LHS (Proved)
[Video] Abuâs Back
Most of you saw Abu a month ago and for those of you who didnât - this is a new character Iâve been working on. So far heâs been on stage thrice. But this weekend he made his Comedy Store debut. Thatâs HUGE for him!
This week he even met a polite heckler - Hereâs the FULL SET
Comic To Watch
Right after I performed at the Comedy Store, I went to the Laugh Factory to watch some true professionals. And MAN was I left in awe.
Iâve seen this man perform more than 20 times probably and Iâve never seen him do material. I get laughs, he gets people crying uncontrollably in clubs. Itâs unreal.
Iâve seen him perform after Kevin Hart, Chris Delia, Chris Rock and he never fails to murder. Meet the Persian King - Max Amini!
You can spend hours scrolling through his videos and they wonât do justice, if you get a chance definitely check him out cause he tours all over the world.
